Well, it’s now 2007, and once again time for everyone to write down their resolutions and then have a pool on who is going to break which resolution first … yada, yada yada.

This year I have two important commitments:

  1. Begin the journey of life-journaling
  2. Make fitness a more important role.

Life Journaling

Scot Longyear on life journaling:
Journaling is an excellent way to both record and process what God has spoken to us. It’s also a useful tool to use at a later time, to reflect on and review some of the ‘gems’ that you have received. Without writing them down, you may forget those blessings and some very important lessons! And while journaling is a very personal time with the Lord, you may want to share some of your daily journaling with your small group or mentors. Through discussion, you may be able to look deeper into what God is speaking to you, gain new insight and even encourage others.

Fitness

This commitment sponsored by NoExcusesGym.com
Background: I started actively playing sports at the age of 3 (T-ball), and played high level organized athletics through college. From my freshman year of high school until shortly after graduating college I was in the weight room, in the gym, on the practice field, etc – contantly working to be in the best physical condition I could be – not b/c of bodily health, but b/c I wanted to have a physical edge over my competition.

Since graduating college in 1999, and seeing my hopes of professional baseball go down with injury the season before, I lost interest in staying in shape. Sure, I have kept some amount of physical activity (softball, basketball, golf), but when I graduated weighing 190 lbs, muscular, cut, good cardio – stopped my six-day-a-week rigorous physical activity – but kept my same eating habits, that 190 lbs quickly turned into 230 lbs with less defined muscle tone and cardio capacity.

Now it is time to regain some of my former self … at least drop the pounds.

My plan:

  • Stick to a strict eating diet personalized by Michael Thurmond
  • Utilize the treadmill that is sitting dormant in our basement for some aerobic work
  • Play more basketball
  • Incorporate various push-up and sit-up routines
  • more to be added

I have an overall plan, weight goal and target date; my life journaling sessions are on the way.
Join me on the journey.
