Overall, I like it. Very listenable, very engaging and very worship-centered. With any song, album or artist, there are songs that are more condusive to corporate worship and some that are better for personal worship. This album definitely has a great mix of both.

I like some better than others, and some have lost their flare and energy after being produced in the studio (i.e. – Sing, Sing, Sing & God of This City).

From Chris:

“We need to introduce ourselves to love again. With each new record, I continue to strive to create songs that will help people voice their worship to God. I hold this as a great responsibility when I begin to think about what the overall recording will look like. Worship is a massive word with a very broad scope, but in the end, it is very simple. It is love! It’s our response in love to our great God who loved us first. As well, it’s our love for others.

Hopefully these songs will renew in some way or stir up again your love for God and His people.
It’s pretty exciting these days to see the Church awaken to the portion of it’s calling where it serves the “least of these,” where we carry those less fortunate than ourselves not just in a special place in our hearts, but in our finances, our energy, our life. And the motive and heart behind all of it is love. That’s it. More simply put, worship is “love with legs.” It’s on the move! It’s not just words and melody.

As Paul says so well in 1 Cor. 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
Chris Tomlin

There is a nice hymn-rendition in “Praise the Father, Praise the Son” that is sure to get included into my list for worship leading sometime soon.

“With Me” is one that could be attributed to a great song for personal reflection and worship in your car or ipod (or Zune if you’re like me).

“Exalted (Yahweh)” could end up being one of those off-shoot, reflective anthems. There are some definite dynamics and a great choir part that could turn powerful with the right choir.

Again, I like it overall. Chris has definitely been blessed with songwriting and singing talents, and not only that but has surrounded himself with other talented musicians and songwriters and leaders as well. I definitely recommend this album.

If you are a worship leader, then the Worship Leader edition CD/DVD is for you.

Oh, and it’s already on my Zune … get it on yours.

WOW! Last night I got to experience Monte Montgomery in person. Jim turned me onto Monte, and we went to see him last night (at a casino … shh), and I’m glad I got to go. That had to be the dumbest stage & sound setup ever, but that’s a whole ‘nother story. This is about Monte.

If you’re a guitarist or a music enthusiast and not into this guy (that sounded weird, but not like that), you need to be. This guy is a freak on the guitar, and his bass player is a freak in his own right too. Just unbelievable. It’s also unbelievable that he’s working a 1988 Alvarez!

This video is from an Austin City Limits in 1999. He’s actually playing with Eric Johnson’s players (another guitarista), not his own. BTW, what was Austin wearing in 1999? Looks like 1986. This song last night went for about 12 minutes.
