Our New Mode of Transportation

When we moved back to KC, a great house fell in our laps. We had originally decided to look for a rental for a couple of reasons: 1) we moved the week of Thanksgiving and 2) we didn’t think we could get all our ducks in a row to make financing happen.

Well, this house was the last one we looked at … and the owners were open to a lease/purchase option … so we did it. Awesome! Now, we’ve been putting everything we can into saving for our down payment for our closing in June. Great, that’s going well also.

A couple of weeks ago our 1999 Olds Silhouette van (190K miles) decided to have a master transmission failure. Great. Well, at least we have our 1995 Chevy Blazer (202+K miles) to get us by for a few months … until yesterday … when its transmission failed. Jen was coming up to speed on the highway, about to shift to third and when it did – REVVVVVVV – no gear engaging. I drove it later when she got home, same thing for me. 30 MPH on the highway isn’t good.

Compound that on top of the power steering pump that was already out, and the crack in the exhaust manifold and the A/C that’s been out since around 2006, and I think the Blazer just sealed its fate in the scrap-yard.

I get it, there are many more travesties going on … [sarcasm] like the NC mom who failed as a mother because she couldn’t provide her son with high speed internet [/sarcasm] < -- not to mention her son was in COLLEGE where high speed internet was already available to him ... wait, how did we function as a society before 1990? But, I digress.

As I was saying, i know there are greater travesties, but these travesties are what are affecting my world.

I know there seems to be a good few of you out there who have dumped TV altogether. Makes sense, but there are still a great majority out there who have not come to their senses … like me … and taken the time to simplify and consolidate.

So, for those who may need instructions on the new DTV switch, here’s a simple instructional video that will smoothly guide you through the transition process.

I just ran across these photos of some “integration” work I had done a few years ago, and thought I’d share them.

PROJECT: We decided to enter an SEO contest. We created a site that revolved around a certain keyword that (after a certain period of time) would be used in MSN Search, and the top so many would receive a prize.

We decided to create a character who’s life was played out through a blog. The keyphrase was “Online Casino BTDino,” so that became the name of our character. To spice it up a bit, we took some photos of one of the guys in the office making various faces. It was then my job to take those faces and “integrate” them into other photos (photoshopping as you may know it) that relate to the stories.

Below is a list of the original photos, and then all the various photos that were “integrated.” I was going to add a link to the story we conjured up for the contest, but it looks like the domain has expired.

2nd Place in Cake Competition

BBC News Online – A grandmother in the UK enters a cake competition, winning 2nd place. She was delighted, until she found out she was the only entry in the contest. That’s just not nice.

Jenny Brown, 62, entered her Victoria Sponge into the competition and was initially pleased to have come second.

But she was left shocked when a friend revealed to her that she was the only person to take part.

The contest was organised by the Wimblington Sports Committee and judges marked down the cake because it had indentations from a wire rack.

What was that? How do you get second place to … NOBODY!?

Although the cake was not deemed fit to win the competition, Ms Brown said it was soon polished off with no complaints.

You might think that’s all to the story. Maybe there’s a little something off with Grandma Brown:

She said her own baking was subject to another strange decision. “About 11 years ago I entered a show with some fruit scones. I was the only entrant but I came third.”

Could we do this with some of our politicians who run un-opposed?

I guess this gives a new meaning to the phrase “second to none.”
